Grants and funding for your septic system

Bringing a septic system up to standard can be a significant expense. Before committing, check possible funding and speak to the right people.

Funding is not guaranteed. This guide is informational: the funding body confirms eligibility, amounts and deadlines. L'Amérique TP does not award grants.

Funding options to explore

Possible grant

Local grants: check with your SPANC

Some local authorities may support renovation of a private septic system (assainissement non collectif, or ANC). Funding is not automatic: programmes, budgets, priorities and eligibility vary by municipality and household.

What to ask

Is a scheme currently open for my municipality? Does my inspection report qualify? What application is required, and when must I submit it?

Repayable loan

Zero-interest eco-loan (éco-PTZ)

An éco-PTZ may finance renovation of an ANC system that does not consume energy, subject to conditions. It is a loan, not a grant. Have your property and proposed system checked by the SPANC and a participating bank; a system with a pump needs specific assessment.

What to ask

Are my property and this specific system eligible? Which forms, quotes and supporting documents do I need? What repayment terms apply?

Individual assessment required

Other options depending on your circumstances

Your ADIL provides free housing-finance guidance. You can also ask your CAF or MSA whether a home-improvement loan could cover your project. Do not assume MaPrimeRénov' will pay for a standalone septic-system replacement.

What to ask

Do my circumstances, income and occupancy status qualify for a grant or loan? Can funding options be combined?

What to do, in order

  1. 1

    Call your SPANC first

The local Service public d'assainissement non collectif is managed by your municipality or intermunicipal authority. Ask your town hall for the service responsible for the property's address, then check the required work and currently open funding schemes.

  2. 2

Get quotes for an approved design

Have a soil study completed before requesting a replacement estimate from L'Amérique TP and before replacement work. Get SPANC design approval and an itemised quote covering the system, excavation, soil removal, connections, inspections and reinstatement.

  3. 3

    Apply before committing

Check the funder's rules in writing before signing a quote, paying a deposit or starting work. Some schemes require a prior application or approval. An advertised scheme is not an award of funding.

  4. 4

    Keep records and arrange inspection

Keep quotes, approvals, invoices and proof of payment. Arrange the SPANC installation inspection before backfilling and ask which documents are needed for any grant payment.

Who to contact

Your town hall can identify the SPANC responsible for your address. For grants and loans, also speak to your departmental ADIL housing adviser and your bank.

In Saint-Méen Montauban, also ask the housing service about renovation grants. In Ploërmel, ask about currently open local programmes. The responsible service and available funding depend on the property's exact address: confirm them directly.

Need a quote for your application?

Once we receive your soil study, we can assess your replacement project and prepare an itemised estimate. Technical approval is the SPANC's responsibility; funding approval is the funder's.
